Tuesday:
Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a wonderful, enjoyable, and memorable Christmas break. Let's take some time to share what you did over break. I have a fun way to share.
For a make you think opener I want you to use this link Earth in Peril and open the interactive map. Take notes on each section heading (different maps) and when finished be ready to discuss. And you will need to answer the following questions.
How do governments make sure water will be available to growing populations?
Where is a food crisis most likely to hit in the near future? Why?
Where are the surface temperatures rising the most? Why is that of concern?
Which slide causes you the least amount of anxiety? Why?
Does the image of the world's populated cities at night directly parallel the population distribution? Explain?
Alright. Let's jump right into it by going over the Population Study Guide. I need you to score your own Study Guide. As you follow along, please highlight the correct answers to the questions you missed. We will also go over the graphing and short answer questions as well. This will probably take the rest of the period and into the next.
For your homework you are going to start a new unit. We just learned about the population and how there are way to many people on Earth, now we are doing to dive into risk factors that will help kill them the hell off! No, that is horrible. But we are going to start a unit on Health and Risk Factors. You will need to read both short chapters and take notes on each. Half of your notes will be due Thursday, the other half on Monday. Some of the material will be repetitive, that is okay, just add to your existing notes. Also, please select a portion of the unit in which you will master and present on. The shared preso is below. We will begin presentations on Thursday and the first six students will present. Unit 6: Risk, Exposure and Health
Below you will find both chapters we will be using for this unit.
And if you did not have enough on your plate, I am slamming you with a MAJOR PROJECT!!! Let me say it for your, "Awwwwe Silva!" Now that you got the pity party complaining out of the way, you still have this new project to do. Actually, I am really excited about it because it will cover both this unit and a future unit as well. We will discuss before class lets out today. Welcome back.
Thursday
Good morning everyone! I hope you are ready for another great day in this abnormally warm January. To get started here is some recent news for you to read about in a not so warm part of our nation. Frozen Building
We will begin by continuing to correct our Population Study Guide. I will be passing out the graphs for you to take home and complete if you have not done so as well.
Up next we will begin our peer presentations on Unit 6: Risk, Exposure and Health. Please be ready to take notes and engage in short discussion.
And lastly, here is link for you to use to help you decide which superfund site you would like to choose for your final project. Superfund Sites
